CFLs have heat issues and just will not work well in some areas.

CFLs and recessed light fixtures (cans) just do not mix.
Nor do they do well in enclosed fixtures like some ceiling lights with glass covers.
LEDs run cool so they should work better where CFLs tend to fail quickly.
