ST parents with kids born in the middle of the school year, did you, or will you, "hold them back" a year before starting them in kindergarten?

Connor could start kindergarten next year, but we're considering (leaning toward) holding him back since he'll only be 4 1/2 at the start of the school year. Now he's great in preschool, teachers love him, say he's very smart, etc, etc, but we've read about and have known (my nephew) who did go on to kindergarten in the same position and have had attention and maturity level issues...
What are your thoughts and opinions?

Think about when his classmates start driving. Do you want him to be able to drive, or depend on his knucklehead classmates to get around? -- nm

I was pushed forward I guess. My birthday is Sept 18th and I was 17 when I graduated HS

Not a parent, but I have a late birthday and wasn't held back. Grades, maturity, and sports wise I was completely fine.

It's very popular around here to hold them back. Parents feel it will avoid having their kids be at a disadvantage in years to come
