It's single point analysis, which always makes things look worse than they really are.

Who gets the most benefit from society? The rich
Who gets the most opportunities from society? The rich
If you only look at these questions (and no other ones), the obvious conclusion is that the rich should pay more tax.
If you only look at questions like "who pays the least tax?" and "who pays no tax?", then the obvious conclusion is that the poor should pay more.
