say the home team has a righty throwing and the visitors bring out a left handed pinch hitter for a better matchup. the home team brings in a lefty and at this point they bring in a right handed pinch hitter instead because the lefty-lefty matchup isn't what they wanted. all within the rules and the right handed pinch hitter is still available because he didn't officially get to bat.
my question is this: why doesn't the home team let the first left handed pinch hitter get to the plate, pitch an intentional ball to him and then make the switch? the visitors will then either have to accept a matchup they don't want, or make another switch. this way the visitors loose a bat from the bench for the cost of a ball one count. is there a rule againt this? if so I have never heard of it. if there isn't, I have no idea why I have never seen this done
