LIR David; I would say in the Amazon infrastructure (media related) the Fire is on par with the iPad but where it lacks is the App infrastructure

so if you're not into 3rd party apps and live and breathe Amazon (Instant Prime, Prime Videos, and Cloud Music) it is just as good as the Apple equivalents
