8 or 9 teams in their league, not the sport....if I'm reading right, there were playoffs between 2 teams in the Original 6.

I don't recall any sport having that low a ratio.
Pre 1969, the Yanks still had to be the #1 team in the AL to play the WS and never less than 8 teams in the AL at that point.
