- This list isn't official, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate.
- It's for the 3-day Friday to Sunday record only.
- Notice how Ghostbusters 2's record only lasted one week.
- The longest any record lasted was 5 years. The shortest was one week.
- No film on this list was ever the overall box office record holder. Although The Dark Knight was #2 for a couple years.
- From 1989 to 2001, the opening weekend record more than tripled. Since 2001, it has more than doubled.
