Perspective Poll; what's the most self-destructive thing you've ever done? Like, House driving his car into Cuddy's living room self-destructive.

My son overdosed on hallucinogens that he bought on the internet this weekend (25i-nboMe this time). He's down, and lucid again, but in a locked ward at the hospital while the psych folks try to determine if he's a danger to himself or others.
He did it the day he was supposed to start a job. A job his Uncle helped him get. He overdosed while living with his Uncle, who had made it abundantly clear that drug-use was a deal-breaker for my son living with him.
So it's a classic "cry for help" overdose. What a spectacularly self-destructive act...I just can't wrap my mind around it. Looking for some perspective on how he (and we) can possibly rebuild a relationship after something so stunningly stupid.

I guess the best way to look at it is that it is a cry for help.

The only thing I can offer is that people redeem themselves from things like this...

wow, you are handling this well. I don't think I've done something quite so spectacular, but maybe something more long term or chronic. -- nm
