I'm a big fan of "better measurements" for poverty. Too often, we just cite an income threshold, but that's becoming really meaningless.

Ireland's got a system that uses that, but then loops in a bunch of lifestyle factors, such as ability to buy Christmas presents, get a new coat every couple of years, eat meat for dinner x times a week. Tightens up on the folks who really need our support and allows for a better targetted action plan.
