Gonna go ahead and say this - I'm getting sick of the South bashing as a result of the NC vote.

Here's how I see it - YES, it's shitty that SOME of the folks in NC turned out to vote and SOME of them voted for banning gay marriage. It's crap. It's shitty that this is not a federal issue and is being left to states. Get it taken care of once and for all instead of having these episodes over and over.
That said, when these type of votes happened in Cali with Prop 8, Maine with the 2009 referendum, and on, nobody said of those voters "those backwoods, racist, bigoted, cousin-fucking, intolerant hicks".. they came up with political reasons why the state wasn't ready, or why some outside group had influenced the election, on and on. Whether they're true or not, who cares. It's the reaction by people, and by the media.
But NC passes this, again it's not right but it is a similar situation, and OF COURSE it's because they're Southern. No other explanation. Southerners are ignorant horrible people and don't deserve to live.
Well guess what, that isn't true. It's true of SOME people in the South, but you've seen in other votes that the tolerant, enlightened folk in other regions of the country are capable of getting out and voting for intolerant acts and politicians as well. The South isn't unique in intolerant behavior.
I'm Southern. It's not by birth, but it's by upbringing and by attitude. My wife is as well. We're fiscally conservative, but liberal in social issues. We support gay marriage. One of our best friends is engaged to be married to his boyfriend. I want them to have a wedding and be together for realsies. One of my best friends EVER is southern and gay, and I wouldn't want him to be any other way. We're not an anomaly, we're quite common. My southern city of Houston has an openly gay major.
So why don't you take your sweeping judgement of a region of the country and shove it. Southerners are kind, warm people and you can't let the actions of some cloud your judgement against everyone else.
And I'm sure I'll get lambasted for this, asked for "references, show me links, nobody says that!", but I just want to get that out.

It's always ok to talk bad about 'white trash', nobody cares. It's never politically incorrect.
