Maine was the same way with friendliness... folks were very suspicious of you for not being from there, and even after we knew people.. they still never opened up.
does it snow a lot? is the coast usable, or just pretty?

it hardly ever snows - the weather is very mild in the winter (30s to 40s). just gray and drizzle.
