it hardly ever snows - the weather is very mild in the winter (30s to 40s). just gray and drizzle.

the coast is gorgeous. lots of hiking, lots of scenery, lots to see. but it's a day trip, and pretty remote, and you likely wouldn't go to just hang out on the beach - east coast beaches are a lot different, from what i've seen. you're more likely to hang out on a (usually rocky) beach along the sound or at a lake somewhere.
