I'd suggest Goldfinger first. It's the prototype of the Bond formula.

Dr No and From Russia With Love came first, and they are both good movies, but they were both played completely straight.

One thing I love about Bond movies is that even though they are all the same formula, there are different movies for different moods.

If you want a straight spy thriller, From Russia With Love, For Your Eyes Only, Dr No and Casino Royale are all good choices.

For a completely over-the-top adventure, there's Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me and Goldeneye.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale are both love stories. Licence to Kill and Quantum of Solace are revenge fantasies.

Diamonds are Forever and The Man With the Golden Gun are probably best avoided :)
