I also recommend Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies.

It's a little pricey and not a big aquarium but there are some cool wow moments. The gift shop was surprisingly affordable. If you go to Gatlinburg and are interested in the aquarium there are some coupons to be found. Also discounts if you get tickets for the aquarium and one or more of the other Ripley attractions. (I did just the aquarium.)
