Stannis was the huge army coming in via ships. The majority of them were destroyed with the green fire.
The army that remained still attacked and had good numbers. They were defeated by Poppa Lannister working with the lover of Stannis' brother (who Stannis defeated earlier in the season?)
In my opinion they really missed playing that angle up. I was confused myself. I guess it was supposed to be like Renly's ghost was attacking them, when really it was his lover.
The issue was that his lover looked so much like the kid that the queen had running errands for her in the episode.
