i would be tempted to just walk away. it's not fair, it really isn't. but you can't make people act differently than they choose to.

your father will do what he wants to do. fair or not. i know lots of people who struggled with similar situations for years and years and finally walked away and just refuse to listen to 'explanations' or whatever anymore. they communicate on their terms now and just don't engage in any conversation that bothers them. does that make anything more fair? no. but it does make their lives more peaceful.
