It's ostensibly a single player action game (minus the always being online requirement), not a MMORPG.

There is multiplayer (which I didn't do) but it's not required at all, it's just a hack and slash dungeon crawler that's incredibly well done. It's kind of hard to describe the genre if you're not familiar with it, as there have been approximately 391 games called "Diablo-clones" released in the past decade plus (the most notable in recent years being Torchlight)
