Companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook want to be able to control the operating system, the retail interface (music, movies, gaming, TV, apps.), the browser, etc. Except I don't think that Facebook is the same as Apple, Google, Amazon or Microsoft. They (Facebook) are your universal online profile. On the other hand, if Facebook establishes itself in the operating system and browser realm, that puts it at a definite advantage over the others.
