I find the tension alot more prevalent in The Pacific than BoB as every second I expect a suicide attack but as mentioned it just seems like the Japenese get continually pushed back but we can't really tell how what the Americans are doing is causing it whereas in BoB they had the voiceovers and write-ups at the end of each episode which described what was happening on the larger scale of the war.
