Joffery's mother is a daddy's girl. Now that daddy is around, she doesn't have to work with The Imp any longer. What is key in the build-up to this is Tyrion didn't play friendly with Joffrey nor his mother. They wanted him gone and Tywin's arrival signifies that they no longer need his brains because Tywin is also cunning.
As for the artistic license on Piggy, I'm inclined to agree with you but Kim immediately said that they didn't deem him a threat. I guess that's plausible.
And I have to believe the Red God's nameless assassin will return. No producer would let an actor capable of that type of performance leave as long as the character lives. He was the breakout star of season 2.
