I'm terribly confused by his last paragraph, with the 100,000 year/hour clock.

So, you plot out history on a clock where 100,000 years = 1 hour, but "if the history of the human race began at midnight, we would now be almost at the end of our first day."

Guh? The human race has a 2.4 million year history? Wikipedia says "Anatomically modern humans originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago, reaching full behavioral modernity around 50,000 years ago."

I don't get the math here at all.
