In response to "hivey whine. " by b.

I feel for you. I can break out in hives just from being exposed to very cold air. It makes it tough in the winter around here. So I'm allergic to ALL

Sulfa drugs. I'm also prone to kidney/bladder infections and kidney stones. Even though it's written all over my medical chart, including the outside cover, my doctor always forgets and tries to put me on Septra or Bactrim. I have to remind him. It's also on my ER chart, both here and in Boise. When I had kidney failure, the nephrologist ordered IV Septra even after a huge red allergy sticker was put on the outside of my chart and I had on a red wristband with SULFA in big black letters. I asked the nurse what she was hanging as she piggybacked it on my IV. I seriously yelled "NO", but it had already released some before she could turn it off. Within 30 minutes my tongue and throat were swelled up and I had hives all over my body. I guess you can't trust anybody. It was 2am and I was awake. I can't imagine if I'd been asleep.

My doctor gave me a "drug cocktail" for hives that I could do myself and avoid steroids. You might want to try it, you're doing something similar. It's benedryl + tagamet (has more antihistime qualities than zantec) + claritan or zyrtec. When I take all 3, my hives are generally gone within 12 hours. Oh, and the spray on benedryl will help until they're all gone, just don't leave it on your hands and try to eat or rub your eyes. Good luck :)
