other variations to consider: tightness of the weave, thick blankets tend to be a loose weave, thin ones have a tighter weave, this becomes important

in this question because while a thick blanket can hold more body heat it can also release more as it can escape the wider tunnels.
I've noticed that on a cold night if I toss a relatively thin blanket on top of my down comforter, it is sooo much warmer and I suspect that's because the thin but tight weave layer prevents the warm air trapped within the thick porous feather layer from venting away.
