I wish we had squatter laws like they have in England. if you live somewhere for seven years without the owner saying something, you now own the land. -- nm

That's a little different. You are actively living there. Sounds like the "owner" doesn't live at this place. So things are little more complicated.

there are lots of people in NYC who rent without leases. if you want to evict them you have to go through the process. -- nm
