In addition to what others have said, you're only talking about dollar costs. The social costs of having people with pre-existing medical problems,

who are unable to get insurance to cover their health problems are enormous.

I agree that America spends too much on healthcare and needs to cut costs. I don't see why the people who are sick and uninsured should bear so much of that burden.
