You may not notice it directly, but you personally benefit from all those things you mentionned, perhaps not directly, but they make society better, and you live within that society.
We're all living together, we benefit from each other. As a group, we have to encourage good behavior, and funding a library or schools is part of this.
Yet all we can think about is money, our money. For some people I understand that they rally need that extra money to eat, but these are the people that actually need the safety net the government provide. For most of the people complaining, it's about buying a bigger TV every year.
