In response to "now, we can debate whether the cost of things at a hospital being WAY overpriced. nm -- nm" by groiny

When I saw Steve Forbes speak up here earlier this year, he talked about this.

All medical costs that insurance covers, keep going up because there's the disconnect between patient and doctor. Why should the patient care what each service costs when either insurance just pays it or it's way too high to ever pay out of pocket and you just declare bankruptcy or it gets written off.

Conversely, look at LASIK surgery. It's only (?) available out of pocket, so there's no disconnect in cost awareness to the consumer. So costs continue to drop.

One of the 'tweaks' that the ACA will need, and soon, is to address this disconnect. Not just expand the number of people who don't need to pay attention to costs because 'insurance will take care of it.'
