One of the reasons I keep coming back to Amish country here is just to drive the back roads.

No telephone poles. No traffic (except when there's a buggy going up a long hill and the cars can't pass because you can't see what's coming over the hill - but that's rare). Beautiful farms with beautiful horses in the fields. Some roads go between the farm house and the barns. Some roads run straight for a while but over hills. Others are curvy. I'm staying in the part with the curvy roads. So you have to drive slow. Amish kids walking alongside the road wave as you go by. Folks in buggys sometimes wave, too. Other times they just ignore you. But that's OK. I wish I could roll down the windows but it's TOO DAMN HOT.

Today we had lunch at the Farmstead in Berlin (mmmm, broasted chicken), then went to an indoor flea market (didn't buy anything). Went into Zinck's Clothing next door and got my stalkee a shirt (yay!). Drove to the inn and checked in. I was looking forward to sitting on the front balcony and watching the sunset. But it's TOO DAMN HOT. Drove over to Sugarcreek for dinner at Beachy's Country Chalet (had the Double Swiss Combo - wienerschnitzel and bratwurst with sauerkraut and roesti - it was OK, not bad, but not as good as I'd hoped). Came back to the Inn (the Guggisberg Swiss Inn) and went out back to the pond and played with the ducks for a bit (that means feeding them corn). They were very cute. Now I'm just basking in the air conditioned splendor of my room.

Tomorrow is still up in the air because it's TOO DAMN HOT. Maybe tour an Amish farm and take a buggy ride. A chocolate factory is having an ice cream social so we'll probably go there. Also, there's an Amish-Mennonite Heritage Center that we've been meaning to get to on previous trips. Tomorrow will probably be a good day to be inside a museum because it's TOO DAMN HOT.

Saturday we're now thinking of driving up to Cleveland to check out the new casino and hit the West Side Market (my favoritest food market in the world, if I haven't already said that). We have a fridge in the room and cooler bags in the car so we can bring stuff home. Mike Symon has a B-Spot in the casino so that's probably where we'll have lunch if we go.

Sunday we may hit the Chalet in the Valley's Sunday buffet before we leave. Or we'll stop in Columbus on the way home and go to Schmidt's for their wurst buffet and giant cream puffs. I just wish it wasn't SO DAMN HOT.
