In response to "Is there a fixed number of cars that can run a NASCAR race?" by Mop

If you show up to a race with a brand new car, you're competing for basically 8 spots

of which there are typically these days 9-13 cars qualifying for. (more for the more popular races)

The other 35 spots are reserved for the cars that run well and run every race, every wekk.
