Indeed. I've been annoyed by the syncing thing. Doing it when I didn't think I told it to gave me all my gmail contacts on my phone.

And to gmail... a contact = anyone who's ever emailed you or vice versa it seems.
Responses:
Yes, that's a royal pain when syncing to Google. You can move people to/from the My Contacts list but that's about it.
