Have you updated everything? Sometimes it will simply reinstall some software that don't work and will fix them

Maybe iTunes it trying to read your library, and if the library is corrupted, it may give you the beach ball of death. Try opening iTunes while holding the "option" key. It would bring a popup window asking if you want to select the library or create a new one. If that works, the library is your problem, not iTunes itself
