I'm talking about being a movie star.

Ellen is not that (save for her Finding Nemo speaking role) . I don't think she's any bigger star now then she was before she came out. I would say she has zero chance at being a leading lady now that she is out.

To that end, Anne Heche disappeared from films around the same time she was with Ellen. Her career just stopped. That's partly because she's most likely crazy, but there are plenty of crazy stars still working.

Look at Rupert Everett's career. It's getting more acceptable for TV and music stars to be gay, but it's still not acceptable for big name movie stars to be homosexual.
