My wife is bummed.

Some of you may remember many months ago that we were contacted by a social worker. My wife's no good cousin had a child that had gone into foster care. The state wanted us on a list of potential foster families and we were eager to do this. The child, she was about 1 yr old at the time, ended up with her grandma on the mom's side (not the no good cousin, but his girlfriend). Now we've learned that the grandma couldn't handle the situation any longer and the child has move on to living with her aunt (the mom's sister) who is going to adopt her. Ultimately, I think this is a good resolution for the child. While the aunt is presently childless, she has expressed a desire to start a family. Deep down, I suspect my wife was hoping we'd end up with the child. Frankly, I'm bummed too, but I'm being strong for my wife. I think we would have been a great family for the child. Maybe even the best family for the child. But being adopted by the mom's sister isn't a bad end-game. We could challenge the adoption but we've never met this family nor the child. Ultimately, it'd be a case of "Who the hell are you people?"
