Personally I don't think they're that concerned about it because retaining players was a secondary goal.

First, I think they believe that any change would be met with complaints by people who liked and were used to things as they were, and on that they are probably right. But people tend to be fairly loyal and once they figure things out they adapt. We'll see if that happens here. But they aren't going to take the complaints seriously until after people are given a period of time to adapt. Second, this is about attracting new players. They're prepared for some turnover and again it won't be able to be judged for some period of time. Practically speaking they would be silly to make major changes right away until they have time to adjust (but they could clean up easier fixes like adding a today's change category on portfolios). I think they will find they are not going to gain much here long run (other sites do much of what the new add-ons do already), but we could be wrong. We'll see.
