I was listening to The Business podcast from KCRW and they had the head of FX on last week.

The contract calls for AM to get 10 episodes unless it hits a certain ratings target, then it autorenews for 90 (!) more episodes.
The interesting part is that the first two episodes don't count to the ratings target to account for the rubberneckers that drop the show after the first couple of weeks.
