yes, I know your abhorrence to pee colored paint, but I have the same concerns about cavernness, and light yellow seems like the right way to go.

Of course, floor tile is like a snow color and my bath tile is an off-white, so it could look very dumb when finished, but at least it will look fresh for now, and then I can get experimental in a month or so.
