I would love to know what they assume is the standard disposable income level most people have.

they're talking 17k like it's nothing; when it's like 50% of the median gross income in this nation; and even for the 100k earners they talk about, it's 1 out of every 6 dollars. That's a sizeable chunk of change to just about everyone.
