Speaking of cars, we got some good news on the car front today.

As I had mentioned a few weeks back, I was/am in the process of buying my dad's car from my mom. My mom had given us a *really* fair price on the car (I don't know how much was still owed on it, but I'm thinking it was about what she was selling the car to us for.) We didn't go through doing a bill of sale, etc. yet, because she had mentioned to me when I was up in RI for my grandmother's funeral that my grandmother had left some money to her sons - since that money couldn't go to my dad any more, it would be split amongst his kids. So my mom wanted to get that taken care of first, as there may have only been a small amount owed in the end for the car, if we used what my nana left first.
My mom called me today to tell me that the money was being disbursed - it was more than we had originally thought - and since that amount was relatively close to the price we had agreed on for the car, she's going to make the new sale price the amount that my grandmother left for me. So, in the end, I have a 2009 Accord with 36k miles that cost me not a penny.
I realize that there was a lot of sad stuff involved in me getting the car like this, but there's nothing I can do to change that. I really appreciate my mom's generosity. She refuses to sell the car to us for the original agreed-upon price. So, thanks, Mom.
