Then I don't see why we're bringing infrastructure into this.

I don't think anyone's claiming it's the best possible thing to do with money. But it does eventually get back into the economy through reporters and staff paying taxes, and buying things that get taxed, that helps fund government projects. There's a best of all possible worlds out there, and I don't like how much money is involved in the process either. But you'd do better to argue how it's bad for the process and not about the economy, which is at best a side issue.
