Znu...The sense of entitlement comes from too many artists believing arts funding to be untouchable by the government.

And what really gets under my skin is that far too many artists and arts groups make no efforts whatsoever to take on greater self-sufficiency. I know that it's tough for the average sculpter to make ends meet, but it is not natural inheirent that said sculpter is providing a community service either just by making stuff with clay.
My point is that arts funding is as worthy a government expenditure as any other.
Which means that some of it could surely be limited in recessionary times.
