You are absolutely allowed to ask additional questions. Send a thank you letter for the interview (IN THE MAIL) but you can also send an email

saying you are very excited about this opportunity, but before you commit you just want to confirm the number of hours a week you would be working and how long the internship is for.
no employer will hold being detail oriented and business minded against you.
