Yeah, it's not the nicest thing to do, but it beats the alternative of waiting too long and ending up with nothing.

I get this 'accept, even if you end up not taking it' advice whenever I'm job hunting.
In your case, all the more reason. With what I've heard about the growing scarcity of internship positions, it's not like the company will have too much trouble finding someone else to work for peanuts!
