Part of the reason I'm not practicing. Altho I pay lip service on holy days of obligation to keep my mom happy.
IMHO, priests, bishops, cardinals, etc. all the way to the top are a close-knit group, a small and very powerful fraternity. There's no way the Pope doesn't know what's going on. I loved JP2, he was charismatic and a great leader, but there are things he buried his head in the sand over. LoC and Opus Dei, abuses by the clergy, etc. Idk, I hope Pope Benedict can clean up the corruption, polish the Vatican's tarnished image. It kind of makes me sick, that these things have been going on unchecked for so long, but that will happen when there's a cult of secrecy, and mystery, surrounding the entire Church.
