from what i can tell multiplayer had two modes (maybe more)

The multiplayer demo comes with two modes: a standard race mode, where you and up to 19 other players can race against each other using the game's power-ups, and a demolition derby-style mode called Motor Mash.
Motor Mash throws you and your opponents into a racing arena, then stands back to watch you attempt to annihilate each other. Points are gained for damaging opponents and the person with the most points at the end of the match is declared the winner.
no idea if you could make custom races though.
