That's good advice. Also, if you're upside down and are going to lose your house...

...you can stop payments and probably stay in the house 10-12 months before the sheriff shows up with the notice to vacate. During all that time, you save your money, rent for a year, and use your savings and repaired credit to buy a new house (maybe even the house you lost).
