We have one in the living room. We go pretty cheap because they tend to blow out when we lose power.

Which happens more than we'd like.

It's not as good as true surround sound would be, but it works. Plus the one we have now has an iPod dock that I use all the time. It was about $125 at Wal-Mart and has a wired subwoofer.
