I read it and it said the bulk of lost memberships was not due to the policy. Similar groups are loosing members, too. BUT, that many people

who might consider the BSA dismiss it for being bigoted and that some (probably not a lot) of the loss of membership is due to its bigotry.

My guess is if they made a huge deal of dropping the policy and becoming open to all that they'd offset any drop from offended religious people.
