Run time doesn't matter except when you're talking about two film maximizing theatre attendance.

Let's say both films get to 90% theatre attendance because most shows sell out at most theatres. Then the two variables would be average ticket price and number of shows.
The Dark Knight will probably have less showings overall than The Avengers did because of run time.
