So, that was an interesting morning. At about 11 or so, my coworker answers her cellphone, and it's her daughter saying someone was breaking into

the house. Her daughter is 13 and home alone.

She tells her daughter to call the police and is frantic, so I offer to drive her to her house.

We *fly* over there and get there when the (3) cops are surrounding the house, guns drawn telling us to stay back.

My coworker is frantic because her daughter is in the house.

What seemed like 20 minutes later, a cop and her daughter finally came out of the front of the house.

The daughter said a guy rang the doorbell and pounded on the front door a bunch of times, but she of course didn't answer. Then she heard something at the back door and peeked out of her room. The guy was at the back door trying to look in, then broke the glass on the sliding glass door. The daughter ran and hid in her room closet (he apparently didn't see her) and called her mom and 911. The guy came in, stole a bunch of jewelry (and not sure what else yet) and went through the daughter's room, too, before running away.

They didn't catch him, unfortunately. But 10 cop cars, K9 unit, it was crazy.

But...HOLY CRAP.

At least her daughter was OK and did fantastic. I need to hug and tell my daughters to do the same thing if anything like this happens to them.

I'm still rattled.
