it's a bit tempest-in-a-teapot, but citing that certain parents beliefs were against singing the anthem kind of pisses me off.

i have no problem with no prayer in school, in fact, i support that, but the anthem is a different story.

Probably Jehovah's Witness. I can see a daily anthem coming too close to "taking an oath" for them. -- nm
